What2See at U’09
If you’re exploring Environmental Missions, here’s some of our U09 recommendations:
Speakers
Denise-Margaret Thompson
For the first time (ever!), Urbana is giving an entire evening to the subject of environment or creation care. Wednesday evening (December 30) is the night, and the speaker of the evening will be Dr. Denise-Margaret Thompson from the University of Trinidad and Tobago. She actually has a background in engineering to go along with her passion for God’s creation, and is heavily involved in student ministry on the side through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship of Trinidad & Tobago. Check out her full bio on the Urbana09 website.
Shayne Claybourne
Simply put, this guy is amazing. He’ll tell you what missions is all about — dropping it all, listening to what God has to say and just going.
If you haven’t read his book “The Irresistible Revolution”, read it before you see him. It’ll change your world.
Oscar Muriu
Oscar is the Senior Pastor of Nairobi Chapel in Nairobi Kenya. If you want a view on what Kenya (a predominantly Christian nation) is about these days and some of the challenges that Kenya is facing, Oscar is the right person to give it.
Last time I saw Pastor Muriu, it was at a conference on short-term missions. He gave an outstanding talk and was not shy about giving his opinions about what the Kenyan people need from western missionaries.
Seminar Majors
This year, highlighting the fact that Creation Care has become an important issue, one of the Seminar Majors is Environmental Stewardship. Care of Creation and some of our partners will be presenting as part of this major. We’ve provided a brief survey of the Environmental Stewardship major here – check it out.
